History: Jed McCaleb released the first version of the eDonkey2000 client through a company called Metamachine. In 2005, MetaMachine received a cease and desist letter from the RIAA. At that point, they discontinued the program. However, the network is still active and can be accessed through newer clients such as eMule.

Types of Files Exchanged: Wide array of files such as CD images, videos, games, and software.
Availability: eDonkey2000 is discontinued. However, the eDonkey network is still functional and can be accessed through newer clients such as eMule and eMule plus.
